Volunteer Opportunities
Here are just a few ways you can support WHS and the PTO this year.

Please be sure to get VIPS certified as this is an annual requirement for school volunteers and is mandated by the schools. www.houstonisd.org/vipslogin
Laptop Deployment: help the school deploying laptops to students. Sign up here
Homecoming Week Activities: planning and support for house decorations parade, homecoming dance coordination, chaperones, and refreshments.

Homecoming Dance: volunteers with trailers, trucks and/or can drive in the parade, off-duty police to assist with parade celebrations.
​
College Night: assist with set up and refreshments.
​
Food & Baked Goods: provide food and/or baked goods periodically for staff appreciation events, prospective parent sessions, and other events. Does not require you to be present - items can be dropped or delivered by your student.
​
Fundraising: help solicit corporate and local business donations to support PTO fundraising efforts
Landscaping: work occasional days at the schools with tasks such as cleaning planters, flower bed maintenance, etc.
​
Staff Appreciation Events: support the Events Chairperson in the coordination and execution of staff appreciation events, including event set up, decoration, serving food, clean up, etc. Events are held on campus during school hours.
​
Student Appreciation Events: support the WHS event staff in the planning, coordination and execution of student appreciation events, held on campus during school hours. Each house hosts a specific event once per year.
​
Academic Competitions: coordinated by school staff members, PTO volunteers support with tasks such as visitor greeters, selling concessions on campus, and possibly serve as chaperones for competitions held at other campuses (requires travel).

Prom & Senior Activities: Senior class parents/guardians help plan and coordinate Senior Week and Senior Prom Activities. Senior Prom is held at an offsite location.
​
9th Grade College Field Trip Chaperone: help chaperone 9th grade students on field trips to local colleges.
​
Field Trip Chaperone: help chaperone various field trips through the year, may apply to all grade levels.
​
Tutor / Mentor: parents with language or school subject expertise may be needed to assist ESL and other students having trouble with a particular subject. Dates and needs are identified by applicable teachers.
​
Special Olympics: assist with set up, events and clean up.
​
PTO Ambassador & Translator: welcome new PTO members and provide translation assistance at special events.
​
Special Events: assist with set up, clean up and running of Back to School Bash, College Night and Community Open House events, plus others as defined and requested by WHS staff.
